November 2024
Dear Harpursville CSD Families,
As winter approaches, it is essential to prepare for potential school delays or closures due to inclement weather. Our top priority is the safety of our school community, and we want to ensure you are well informed about our decision-making process and notification procedures.
Here are some key points to keep in mind regarding school delays or closures:
Communication Updates:
Notifications will be shared via the district's new text messaging system, our website, local media outlets, and our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/harpursvillehornets.
The new communication tool allows us to send alerts via text messages more quickly than the previous "all-call" system, ensuring timely notifications.
If you did not receive a test message from our system on November 8th, please contact the attendance office at (607) 693-8108 or jrandrews@hcs.stier.org
Weather Monitoring:
We monitor weather conditions closely and consult with neighboring districts, as well as local and state officials.
Buses typically depart from the garage 1.5–2 hours before school starts.
Decisions are based on factors like road conditions and clearing school premises.
Timing of Notifications:
Whenever possible, we aim to provide early notice of delays or closures.
In cases of extreme weather, decisions may be made the evening before.
Adjusted Start Times:
1-hour delay: School begins at 8:50 a.m. (breakfast is provided).
2-hour delay: School begins at 9:50 a.m. (no breakfast is served).
Cancellations:
When school is closed or dismissed early due to inclement weather, all extracurricular activities, practices, afterschool programs, and school meetings (except for Board of Education meetings when possible) are canceled.
Parental Decisions:
If you decide to keep your child at home due to impassable roads, please notify their school building. These tardies or absences will be excused.
We are committed to promptly keeping you informed during winter weather conditions. Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families.
Sincerely,
