W.A. Olmsted playground area will be close Friday, June 13 - Sunday, June 15

Posted Date: 6/13/25 (3:41 PM)

UPDATE: Due to the poor weather conditions again last weekend, the preventative treatment has been rescheduled for today, June 13, 2025. Please be aware the W.A. Olmsted playground area will be close Friday, June 13 - Sunday, June 15.

Dear Families,

Please be advised that the playground area at W.A. Olmsted Elementary School will receive a preventative treatment on Friday, June 13. This treatment is part of our ongoing efforts to protect students and staff by reducing the presence of mosquitoes and ticks.

This spring, we have seen an increase in tick activity, including instances where students required assistance from our school nurse for tick removal. In response, we will be applying a product that is EPA 25(b) exempt, which means it is classified as posing no risk to humans or the environment under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).

The treatment will be professionally applied by Ehrlich Pest Control, using the following product: EcoVia MT. Although this product is deemed safe, we are taking an abundance of caution and will be closing the playground for the weekend to ensure the area is fully ready for use by students the following week.

Product details, including labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), are available online.

Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us maintain a safe and healthy school environment.

Sincerely,
Heath Georgia
Superintendent
